Pulp Fiction is a 1994 crime film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino from a story by Tarantino and Roger Avary. It follows criminals, a boxer and a crime boss's wife through several connected episodes in Los Angeles. The events are deliberately shown out of chronological order, so a character may return after an apparent ending and a small conversation may become important much later. John Travolta, Samuel L. Jackson, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis and Ving Rhames lead the ensemble. The film mixes violence, ordinary conversation, dark comedy and sudden changes of mood, creating a style that influenced many later independent and studio films.
Themes and ideas
Chance, consequence and the possibility of change connect the separate stories. Characters talk about loyalty and professional rules, but unexpected events reveal how little control they actually have. Jules begins to question the meaning of survival, while Vincent treats unusual danger as another inconvenience and continues his established habits. Butch must choose between escape and helping someone who intended to harm him. The film also explores performance: criminals rehearse intimidating speeches, people adopt cool identities, and everyday conversation becomes a way of testing power. Its humour does not cancel the violence; it makes the moral instability more uncomfortable.

The nonlinear order changes which character choices form the beginning and ending, creates connections between episodes and lets the film compare different responses to danger.
The film never gives a confirmed answer. The glowing contents function as a deliberate mystery rather than information needed to understand the plot.
It carries an adult rating in many regions because of strong language, violence, drug use and sexual violence. Check the official classification for your country.
