The quick answer: choose one of three routes

You do not need complete seasons of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist before The Defenders if Matt is your focus. The crossover introduces their immediate roles. Jessica Jones season one is the best optional addition because her voice and history make her later Born Again return more meaningful.
Why Daredevil season three is the crucial older finale
Season three follows a damaged Matt rebuilding himself while Wilson Fisk manipulates his way back into power. Fisk uses FBI agent Benjamin Poindexter, a gifted but unstable marksman, to attack Daredevil's reputation while wearing a version of his suit.
Karen and Foggy are not merely people waiting for Matt to recover. Their choices, investigations and anger challenge his habit of deciding alone what danger other people can handle. The season brings the friendship and Fisk conflict to a hard-earned stopping point.

Where Hawkeye and Echo fit
Hawkeye reveals that Fisk survived and remains connected to New York's criminal world. The series focuses on Clint Barton and Kate Bishop, so watching six episodes solely for a small amount of Kingpin context is optional. Its ending leads into Maya Lopez's position in Echo.
Echo explores Maya's relationship with Fisk and his attempt to reclaim a family-like bond built through manipulation. It also includes Daredevil and helps bridge the street-level corner of the MCU. Watch it when Maya and Fisk's emotional history interests you.
Place Hawkeye and Echo after Daredevil season three and before Born Again. She-Hulk: Attorney at Law also features Matt in a lighter chapter, but its legal comedy and romance do not directly set up Fisk's mayoral campaign.
The Punisher and Jessica Jones branches
Frank Castle continues from Daredevil season two into two seasons of The Punisher. Those episodes develop his grief, violence and relationships beyond Matt's judgement of him. Born Again brings Frank back, so his own show adds weight without becoming compulsory Daredevil viewing.
Jessica Jones season one is the strongest preparation for Jessica. It introduces her work as a private investigator, her abilities and the trauma that shapes her guarded humour. The Defenders then shows her dynamic with Matt. Her later seasons complete her own story but are optional for Born Again season two.

What Born Again season one changes

Do you need to read the Born Again comic?
No. The television title recalls a famous Daredevil comic story, but the series is not a scene-by-scene adaptation of one book. Season two also takes inspiration from stories involving Fisk's political power and anti-vigilante control.
Marvel has pointed readers toward older Daredevil issues and Devil's Reign as relevant inspiration. Read them after the season if you want to compare how comics handle a city under Fisk. Knowing an original ending can otherwise create expectations the show never promised.
